Sounding like a shotgun marriage of The Spencer Davis Group and Oasis in a British-via-a-midwestern-basement scuzzy rock and roll kind of way, Spitting Nickels offer a concise, driving mix of guitar and keyboards, garage and pop spiced up with quirky lyrics and sweet harmonies. Riding that unmistakable Hammond B-3 sonic wave, the Nickels will get you moving.
John Bissa - Bass
Ben Borowiak - Keys/Percussion/Vocals
Chris Brosky - Lead Guitar/Vocals
Jamie Gawecki - Drums
Dennis Miriani - Lead Vocals

We lost Ben on 3/28/11. We don’t know why and once again the world seems without sense.
Here’s what Chris wrote on Ben’s wall:
Benny, there has never been a person like you and there never will be... you were the most gifted musician I've ever met and the most loyal friend anyone could ever ask for. I had the chance to play and create music with you over the last 10 years and I will always cherish those moments... you were my musical brother, from playing Doves covers in your bedroom at your parents house, to getting kicked off the hill at U of D with the Press Club, to playing the Blind Pig in front of a packed house with the Nickels. There was no better feeling onstage than to look over at you while you poured your soul into every song - you were the magnetic presence that everyone was watching. Through those times we became great friends, and I never saw you happier than when you were with Lisa... I'll miss haulin' gear and drinkin' beer with you buddy.
Anyone who reads this knows that we all feel that way (and the many other postings give evidence of this as well).
Ben’s countless friends are hosting a BENNYfit on May 7th at the New Dodge Lounge in Hamtramck. Fitting of Ben, there will be all manner of music and musicians performing. Whether you knew Ben well or merely had the pleasure of enjoying his “mad scientist” performances, please join us.
Keep Ben in your hearts -- he was as original as they come.

This is hard to write….
As many of you know, Spitting Nickels’ keyboardist extraordinaire, showman par excellence and great friend Ben Borowiak passed away on March 28th. He leaves behind a 29-year legacy of family, friendship and music.
These family and friends will come together on May 7th at the New Dodge Lounge in Hamtramck for BENNYfit, a musical remembrance and benefit for Ben. We ask that you join us in this celebration of a truly gifted and special person.
For fans, followers and supporters of Spitting Nickels, you know that Ben’s death is doubly inconceivable. As a result, we now believe that the time has come for Spitting Nickels to end. May 7th will be our last show.
First and foremost, we want to thank every one of you that supported us over the last four years. We are sublimely humbled by your encouragement.
We’d like to ask for a couple of favors:
-If you can join us at the BENNYfit, please do. We’d like to share this time with as many of you as possible.
-Whether you can make it or not, we’d like you to have our record “Stop Don’t / Yes.” Please feel free to download it here. If you’d like to send this link to friends, we’d be gratified.
-If you are coming on May 7th, we would like to encourage as much participation as possible. In particular, we’d like you to bring the biggest, loudest shaker you can find/make/borrow. Ben loved shakers and we think it would be a fitting tribute. And if you know the words, don’t hesitate to sing along.
BENNYfit – Free Music – Shakers… that is all.
Thanks again.
Chris, Dennis, Jamie and John
